We are a second-generation, family-owned landscaping company, entrusted with distinguished residences on the North Shore and around Lake Geneva, as well as the municipalities, associations, churches, and office parks that expect a partner of the same caliber.
Our founder holds a dual degree in art and psychology, and it endures in how we work: we read a property as an artist reads a canvas, and we read the people we serve as a gracious host reads a room.
Fifty-seven years on, we still send our clients birthday wishes, and we still return a landscape with more heart than they expected to find.

Landscape Design & Build
This is the whole of it: the planning, the design, and the building of an outdoor space made for the way you live. Our in-house architects render it in 2D and 3D so you may walk through it before you commit, and our own crews bring it into being, including plantings, patios, outdoor living, lighting, drainage, and full-property transformations.
Landscape Maintenance
The truest luxury of a fine landscape is never having to think about it. Our maintenance programs protect what you have invested in, through seasonal cleanups, pruning, fertilization, and the enhancements that keep a property at its best across the year. You enjoy the weekends. We attend to everything else.
Commercial Services
Many know us for our residential landscaping services and are surprised by how much commercial we do. We care for municipalities, associations, office parks, churches, and libraries throughout the area, with attentive communication and crews who arrive as promised. Full-service grounds management, seasonal color, and snow and ice management where we serve.

WHO WE ARE
Italian Lawn and Tulip: A Legacy You Can Lean On
Harry Vignocchi grew up in a close Italian immigrant community in Highwood, on Chicago's North Shore. His father was a master mason. His grandfather, a master gardener. He came of age among the great estates nearby, then went off to university.
He tried working for others. It never suited him. So he gathered what he needed to buy a small maintenance company of his own, and the family gave what it could, because that is what those families did for one another.
He named it ILT: Italian Lawn and Tulip. "Tulip" was the name his wife had given their daughter, Donna. He wrote his little girl's name quietly into the company. For years he kept the meaning to himself, certain it made the company sound sentimental.
It is, in the finest sense, and that turned out to be the whole point.
Today Donna leads the company her father named for her, and the tenderness he once concealed is precisely what our clients feel. As Donna puts it, the aim was never to place a name upon a building. It was to leave behind a legacy of feeling.

Our in-house architects shape your ideas into a plan you can truly see, in 2D and 3D, before a dollar is spent building it. Once it is right, our own crews manage the engineering, the permits, and the build, keeping you informed at every turn.

When the work is done, the worry is over. You become the client who steps outside in the morning with a cup of coffee, settles onto the seat wall we built, and simply takes it in. Our maintenance team keeps your landscape as it looked the day we finished.
Three Levels. One Standard.
Clarity extends to investment. Our design-build work is offered at three levels: the Signature Series, for refined enhancements such as patios, outdoor kitchens, and front entries; the Heritage Series, for comprehensive transformations of the whole property; and the Legacy Series, for estate master planning meant to serve generations. Some clients begin with a single Signature project. Others begin with a master plan, brought to life thoughtfully in phases. The scale changes. The standard never does.

All three, delivered by one in-house team with our own landscape architects. Because the same people plan, build, and care for the landscape, nothing is lost in a handoff. Roughly nine in ten of our design-build clients remain with us for ongoing care.

We remain family-owned, since 1969, and we have not been acquired by private equity. You reach a real person when you call, often the owner, and the crew that begins your project is the crew that completes it. We answer, and we own the result.

It begins with a short conversation, followed by an on-site visit where we mostly listen. From there we prepare a 2D and 3D design so you can see your space before you commit, then we build it and care for it over time.

There is no upfront design fee when a project moves forward. Should a design be created and the project not proceed, a design fee may apply, typically between $1,500 and $3,000. We will always be clear about this at the outset.
